Duniawi thoughts

Liverpool 1 - Villa 3.

And an own goal.

Adusss.

-----------

As a fan of The Reds, I have acquired some special traits over the years:

1. High level of patience
2. High level of optimism
3. A certain degree of denial

Especially towards the end of a season when we keep telling ourselves "Miracles do happen" (And they do happen ok!)

The roads were really empty this morning especially in Cheras area.

Semua orang dah balik kampung untuk raya ke??

Lost sense, sadly (part 2)

Case 2

Kalau jalan tu dah tak boleh belok kanan, jangan la gatal2 nak belok!

2 of my sisters and Khai (the 4-year old mat saleh boy who's very close to our family) got involved in a car accident 2 weekends ago. One not-so-clever driver in a CRV decided to make a sudden illegal turning at a dual carriage-way near my house one sunday afternoon, hence causing the accident. Yes, there are many stupid drivers around and yes, accidents do happen. I accept that. But what I cannot tolerate is a stupid driver who is also irresponsible and an outright liar.. and that driver who caused the accident is just that.

1. When asked by my sister (in the ambulance to the hospital) why she did that illegal turning, she went "Anak-anak akak bising...akak nak cepat!" What a responsible mum eh?

2. When my dad arrived at the accident scene about 5 minutes after it happened, that stupid driver whom prior to that was sitting by the road side with no visible injuries suddenly faked a faint. What a drama queen!

3. When the ambulance arrived, that drama queen quickly hopped on the stretcher and asked the paramedic to carry her into the ambulance while my injured sisters who are covered with blood caused by her stupid act, had to wobble by themselves into the ambulance.

4. At the hospital, instead of apologising for the harm caused, she continued to be a drama queen, as if she is going to die. Believe me, I would have slapped her silly if only my parents weren't there.

5. At the police station, her drama continued. She walked as normal from the car into the police station, without any aids (I was behind her without her realising it) but the moment she saw us, she pretended as if she was truly injured and had to be helped by her brothers to walk and even sit. Grrrr...

6. And here's the ultimate lie. In her police report, she said she wasn't turning right and that my sister was the one who bang the back of her car! And although she is actually working in Hanoi and only back in KL for a holiday (it was her brother who told us this), she stated in the report that she is a housewife from Kuala Terengganu! My two sisters sustained quite a number of injuries requiring surgeries and she still had the nerve to lie? What kind of mother is she? Didn't she know we had so many witnesses at the scene? Even the damages on both cars didn't tally with her fabricated stories!

My sister's car

Someone lost a patch of hair that day

There would be some damages at the back of her car if my sister did bang her from behind right? But there was none. Oh, yes I am kind enough not to reveal her car registration number because the car did not belong to her. It was her father in law's and a brand new car too. Come to think of it... maybe that explains all her drama queen acts and lies!

Lost sense, sadly (Part 1)

Case 1

Gary Leon Robert, aged 22, an all-rounder university student participated in Adidas' King of The Road Marathon a couple of sundays ago with a few friends. He was separated from the friends during the run and was among the first to complete the race on that fateful morning. However, he went missing after the race ended and a frantic search by family and friends later were fruitless. Sadly, his lifeless body was found the day after in one dark alley in the stadium where the marathon was held, by a police's dog.

Before I go further, let me just clarify that Gary is a younger brother of my colleague hence, all information conveyed here are first-hand.

Gary's death was attributed to severe dehydration and any foul plays have been ruled out so please do not start making any conspiracy theories ok. He didn't have anything on him except for the medal from the race since his personal belongings kept in a safe deposit were uncollected at the end of the race. Yes, accident do happen and yes, you can die from severe dehydration. But any sane person would have ask the same question... were all the necessary cautionary steps have been taken to prevent this?

A number of bystanders and participants from the marathon have since contacted the family and came forward with information, shedding some light to what actually happened. Apparently, after Gary completed the race, he desperately asked for water but was not given any. The family were told by the other participants that were a few water stations along the race track but none at the finishing line except for a Milo van, which you have to queue to get some. He then collapsed and was carried away on a stretcher by some JPA3 volunteers but after awhile, was let to walk away by himself. Whether or not he was given proper medical assessment and any treatment remain unconfirmed. But anybody with even the most basic medical knowledge would know that severe dehydration can lead to neurological impairment like confusion right? Am sure many would have pick this important info up just from watching ER, Grey's Anatomy or House.. right?

Anyway, here comes the saddest part... When Gary failed to turn up at home that afternoon, the family called up the event organisers to ask for any information such as the race number to help them trace his last movements. But sadly, the man who was supposed to be responsible of the whole event wasn't that helpful and asked the family to wait till the next day. He even made a comment to his sister (my colleague) suggesting that Gary has ran away from home. So insensitive eh? Even up to yesterday, the family still haven't receive any condolences from the organising parties eventhough they have the family's contact numbers, although in the newspapers, they said they did. Sad.

So.. why am I highlighting this sad incident here? Because I have so many friends who regularly participate in this kind of sporting events and I just want them to be more aware and take cautionary steps in the future. Gary's family is still in mourning of the sudden lost and they still have so many unanswered questions. But they also want others to learn from this unfortunate experience so that no other families have to go through what they have and still going through..

Was it a case of negligence by the organisers? Only time will tell... if ever.

Gary's friends have set up a website to highlight the incident to the public (and to give their side of the story since so many articles with statements from the organisers have since came out in newspapers) and it can be found here.

My deepest condolences to Gary's family for their lost. May his soul rest in peace.

Satu kebaikan facebook

p/s I have so many more serious stuff to blog about but need time to structure them out from this cluttered brain of mine. Soon.

Sangat Hangen!

Mom had an episode of chest pain today. It was midday but I was still in bed (since wasn't feeling well myself) when dad called out for help. After the 3 GTN tablets given didn't give any relief, we took her to Ampang Puteri Hospital, thinking taking her to my workplace would take forever because of the massive traffic havoc caused by the stupid rally (Why can't you guys do it in a stadium or empty spaces out of the city and spare us the inconveniences??)

As soon as we arrived at the ED, my mom was attended quickly by the nurses and ECG was done in no time. The nurses were helpful and competent (to my standard at least) but it was the attending Medical Officer that I felt like killing! After the staff nurse shown him the ECG results (which by the way was normal) he just came over to my mom, told her that she needs to be admitted and off he went again... He decided to admit my mom WITHOUT any physical examinations or history-taking done. None. He didn't even touch my mom!!

When I questioned the decision through the staff nurse, he came back again and pathetically 'attempted' to listen to my mom's chest in front of me. Hey, I am not a doctor but I do know how a stethoscope should be used and definitely not the way he demonstrated it just now! When I asked him to address the chest pain first (obviously he didn't even ask my mom the nature of the pain, the pain score nor any pain relievers were offered) he came out with all jargons on nitrates and narcotics. If you had attempted to take even a simple history mister, you would have known that mom already had the GTN tablets at home and that her daughter is a pharmacist, hence your attempt to impress her with your pathetic drug knowledge was just.. pathetic! I know time is bad now and patient admission would help rake in more $$$ for the hospital, but please do it ethically ok!

Anyway, before I started to lose my temper and beat the crap out of that pathetic MO (he is by the way a locum), I just walked out of the triage area and made a call to the ever-so-helpful cardiologist in my own hospital. To cut the story short, we took my mom out of APH and she is now resting in my work place for observation. It is only a gomen hospital and not as posh as APH but at least we have more honest, ethical and hardworking doctors. At least I can now get some sleep knowing my mom is now in good hands...my head is still pounding and looks like the temperature is coming back. Hope to rise early tomorrow to check on mom and to write a complaint letter to APH.

No mister, you won't get away with it...

Footnote: All in my family have, over the years, sought treatment through that ED of APH and got admitted to their wards. I even had my appendix removed there. So, even without comparing with my own hospital or any other EDs, I knew the care we received from that MO today was bad, to their own usual standard.

End of an era (and the beginning of a new one)

So, I turned 48 a few days ago. Instead of having the day off to celebrate, it was a busy day instead starting with a virtual viva session f...
