Songs from yesteryears

I have lots of thoughts to be pen down in here but my mind is a little bit chaotic at the moment... Let me '5S' the braincells first ya..

For the time being, let me share with you a couple of favourite songs from my growing up years (yes, I'm in my 'nostalgic' mode again) ... I'll be back!

Unskinny Bop - Poison

High Enough - Damn Yankees

Dancing in the rain

It rained cats and dogs when I left the hospital after work today. Heavy rain would normally bring out big sighs from me since it would more frequent than not means getting stuck in bad traffic jams. But today was an exception. Today, for some unexplained reasons, I welcomed the rain with a big smile... getting totally drenched out just to get to the car didn't bother me at all. In fact, I walked slower than usual and purposely walked across the instant water puddles just to get my feet totally soaked. I wanted to take off my shoes and walk barefooted but my always sober head over-ruled, since I was still in the hospital compound.

Nanti ada pulak yang kena hantar wad psychiatric pulak kan...

Walking in the rain today reminded me of my younger years when life was simple and easy. The years when only love matters. I remember one day when a loved one and I walked hand in hand from Ampang Jaya to my house in heavy rain without any umbrellas or raincoats. It was quite a long walk but like I said, we were young and innocently in love that not even the rain could get in our way. We had fun that day.

Nasib baik tak kena panah petir!

The distant memory of that particular happy moment brought a broad smile on my face as I entered my car, soaking wet. But the smile was cut short. Out of the blue, his name popped up on my phone screen a few minutes later, while I was stuck in a traffic jam, still soaking wet. A surprise to me considering we haven't been in touch for quite a long time. He smsed asking a few questions on some medications since he was and I guess still is, feeling under the weather. Oh well, for all it is worth, at least he still remembers what I do for a living...

C'est la vie.

Anyway, I hope one day, I will once again be able to walk hand in hand with the one I love in the rain...

Walaupun dah kerepot dan bertongkat!

Yes, I am still one hopeless romantic. Even pessimism can't change that in me...

Of old friends and nicknames

Over the years, I accumulated a number of nicknames and am called differently by different sets of people, even until now. Some nicknames were given by my family and relatives when I was small, many were given by friends over the growing up years particularly during my secondary schooling days. Some make sense, some just totally don't!

The nick hazyr itself was given to me by one of my close friends when I was in form two.. Funnily enough, it first appeared in this friend's diary (mesti kutuk aku nih!) and later made popular at school by her and a few others. Although I have been using it regularly ever since, I have totally forgotten about its origin until she mentioned it here in her blog recently. It brought a wide smile on my face when I read it....aaaaaw, the good ol' (naive) days!

This morning (yes, it's 3am in the morning now and I just got home from basketball), when I logged onto facebook a few minutes ago, I was hugely surprised to see one unexpected name under 'People you may know' column of the site. It was the name of a person whom I have been searching for years! She was my classmate and french partner for 3 years (we called ourselves 'frenchies' back then) although I am pretty sure she received a much better results for French in SRP compared to mine. I am ashamed to admit that I took french before because although I have even been to France twice, my french is now limited to 'Je ne parlez par francais' only..heheh..

Oh, anyway, this long-lost friend was the creator of another nickname that stayed on with me till today. The nick originated from the comic character Bambino although I still can't remember what was the relation between me and Bambino at the time or how exactly the nick came about!

This was one of her favourite songs when we were in Form 2 and tonight, it brought back a lot of fond memories. Believe it or not, I still have the lyrics of this song that she wrote in my song book almost 18 years ago! (yes, I had a song book before... don't laugh!)

Good to see you again mate!

14th August 2008

I became all excited when I received a couple of smses from Dr Bubbles this afternoon telling that the 4th orphanage library project has finally been officially announced today in his blog. We've been talking about this upcoming project on a few occasions already and it has been quite a while since we had the last one...hence, my excitement upon hearing that it has finally kicked off :)

Anyway, the next project will be for Rumah Anak Yatim Yayasan Ain Maisarah, Chemor, Perak and this one will be quite special since it will be carried out during the coming Ramadhan. You can read here for more info.

Library for orphanage project was originally a personal project initiated by Dr Bubbles with support from some friends and individuals but this time on, for better transparency, it will be done through Islamic Relief. If you want to know more of the previous project installments, you can read my experience logs here and here.

Our target this time is to get 1000 NEW books for the orphanage by mid Ramadhan. So friends... let's do our bits and help out for the betterment of these less fortunate kids ya!

UPDATES: 15th AUGUST 2008

Library installation followed by Iftar with the kids of Rumah Anak Yatim Ain Maisarah is scheduled to be on Saturday, 6th September 2008. Some food distribution to the poor under Feed the Fasting project will be carried out the next day, 7th September 2008 at Kg Cheh, Bukit Gantang (where we had the 2nd mini library for orphanage project). So guys, if you're interested to donate to any of these 2 projects, just follow the links above and on the side bar ok. If you're interested to join the projects.... that's even better!

Footnote: Guess I will get the chance to see the lovely kids of Nur Hidayah again...miss their smiles, laughters and clever questions!

End of an era (and the beginning of a new one)
